About The Artwork

This is an original mixed media gulf blue crab painting. The blue crab's scientific name is Callinectes sapidus which means "beautiful savory swimmer." They are striking to spot with their often bright-blue claws and olive-colored carapace (shell. To emphasis the richness of the sand's texture, I used real sand. The varied brushstrokes convey the direction of light and the elusion of depth. Parallel strokes sculpt the creature's form on an exuberant sea-like surface. This crab is on the defensive as blue crabs do when they are caught. He has his claws up and ready for the fight of his life. The big hole was made by this blue crab to bury itself in the muddy bottom of the bay. The distant holes are from snails that drill through shells, crabs that excavate tunnels, and air pockets where little bubbles pop as the waves recede. I painted a few seashells to keep this crab company before I prepare him for a sumptuous lunch. Would you like to join me?

As a painter, I am inspired by the diverse cultures and people on our planet. I also like to capture the beauty in the mundane objects and places. By exploring my personal and spiritual connection with nature through my interpretation of God's creation, I strive to create images that transport the viewers to a different state of mind. I want them to experience something new that they have not noticed in the past. Utilizing both my illustrative instinct that I acquired through years of experience in Graphic Design and my modern stylistic technique, I am able to explore the art of painting to achieve a sense of self-fulfillment. My style and my love of color give me a sense of freedom and joy in creating, which, in turn achieve a sense of motion and emotion in my work. Armed with the design elements of line, shape, color, contrast. value, balance and texture, I particularly like to experiment with different materials like fine sand, burlap, sinamay fabric (woven in the Philippines), rice grains and paper to accomplish a richness in texture or to evoke depth. My repertoire of tools include, but not limited to brush, palette knife, toothbrush, sponge, opaque and thinning mediums, wet on wet and glazing. Different mediums allow me to express different ideas in a unique and personal way. Each and every single piece contains a fragment of myself, created in an effort to unearth myself or sometimes even heal myself. I strive to make my paintings speak out their innermost depth, conveying the message of healing energy and hope.
