About The Artwork

This new series of work has just been shown as a solo exhibition /24 pieces, at a top contemporary city gallery: The Main Gallery, Adelaide. info@themaingallery.com.au The series of work took me in a direction of abstraction which opened my perception brought about by the laying down of the lovely mixed media material itself. The materials and abstraction helped me express the intangible - the non visual feelings that we all feel when we need hope and to resolve all hardships. Exhibition was called Silencing the Chaos, each piece came about during the effects of turmoil in the world. Disorder tends towards order, and here are "only a few moves towards order" and this fact influenced me as I engaged in developing this piece, the conclusion and process took me finally into ordered silence of elementary beauty. This work has a very contemporary boxed side edge finished in soft grey 2inches deep

Biography I work as an artist with an interest in mixed media, contemporary, non objective works - that are usually very colourful. A non representational approach allows me and the viewer to swim along into the work to find our own emotional journey. Although that sounds elusive it is a journey essential in creativity -more so that one never tires of engaging the new discoveries in these many layered pieces. The finished work is then simply mounted on raised cradled panels that do not require formal framing. Background: Sheila was a daughter of parents who were working class - coal miner and weaver, she was born and raised in Burnley, Lancashire a town in the centre of the industrial revolution north of England. Art was introduced to her from a young age by her bachelor uncle in the form of drawing the figure. Creativity remained in her mind and she was dreamy about art in school, thinking about the possibilities of being able to learn more about being an artist. At the age of 17 she married and within four years of marriage migrated to Sydney, Australia, where she began her formal education in art. Her dream was slowly emerging in her new home country half a world away from home. She then ventured into art tutoring for Tafe to begin with, then later she became Gallery Director in Bridgewater, South Australia where she set forth to curate regular exhibition by notable artists. Art practice and studio work about her own ideas continued along side of her gallery work ever preparing her work for a continuing round of solo exhibitions which are listed in her curriculum vitea as follows.
