About The Artwork

The paintings titled “A sunny day in my pocket” were created in the hot months of this summer as a compound of abstract composition and imaginary landscape. The basic atmosphere in the paintings comes from a combination of yellow shades, strong light and visible brush strokes. The individual images could be spotted somewhere at the edge of the Sahara and be put in our pockets ... and thus be kept as memories of a sunny day. As a painter, I strive to portray images that have not yet been seen, in order for them to become and remain visible. This Artwork is hand signed and dated in the front and the backside.

Oto Rimele is a painter, visual artist and author of visual spatial settings. He expresses himself with pure form and colour. Currently, he is Full Professor for drawing and painting at the University of Maribor, Slovenia. In 2004 he received the Prešeren Fund Award, the highest recognition for achievements in the field of art in the Republic of Slovenia. As regards construction, his images are created is such a way as to enable radiation of colour light. The images are accurately placed into the space of the exposition area and achieve the creation of non-material colour communication: his images-objects enable the light of the space to pass into the light of the image, the silence and the inner sound of the image. Rimele strives to achieve such a state of the visual image that will establish, in the interaction with the spectator and the space, the state of wholeness: the artistic image is here in order for the spectator to be able to become aware of himself again and enter the dimension of his non-materiality. His work could be described as “sacral minimalism” and corresponds, as regards the content, to the European spiritual tradition and contemporary authors such as Anish Kapoor, James Turell, Bill Viola, Arvo Pärt. Additional information on the author and his work in English can be found at the website www.otorimele.com.
