About The Artwork

"He said when things are going really well we should be sure to notice it. He was talking about very simple occasions, not great victories. Maybe drinking lemonade under a shade tree, or smelling the aroma of a bakery, or fishing, or listening to music coming from a concert hall while standing in the dark outside, or dare I say, after a kiss. He told me it was important at such times to say out loud, 'If this isn't nice, what is?' Kurt Vonnegut, If This Isn't Nice, What Is? Maps Of Unusual Landscapes are inspired by my late night and early morning walks since the beginning of the pandemic. I’d often find myself switching direction or turning around in an attempt to avoid other people. Normally, my dog and I meander through the neighborhood catching up on everyone’s news and saying hello to friends. The strange reality of avoiding other humans has changed the landscape for me. Layering texture, colour, and intuitive marks, Melissa McGill builds abstract worlds on raw canvas and paper. Her work is inspired by literature, the natural world and life events. A joy of the medium of painting is reflected in her exploration of technique and the embrace of new palettes and forms.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Layering texture and colour, wash and mark, paint and canvas evolve into something new. Reflecting the joy of movement, my process involves my whole body, large strokes of colour poured or scraped across the canvas punctuated with graphic lines of pastel, graphite and chalk to guide the eye and balance the composition. Finding inspiration in the natural world, I build up my paintings in a very organic way. Working primarily with acrylic paints allows me to work intuitively. After 15 years of interpreting other peoples ideas as a commercial illustrator, painting is a joyful interpretation of my life experience. My work is in collections in the United States and Europe Current Representation: R.Cline Arts, Las Vegas, NV Brett Wesley Contemporary, Las Vegas, NV Art Dimensions, Sherman Oaks, CA
