About The Artwork
I’m drawn to the tension between nature and the hand-of-man on the landscape. I ask the viewer to observe objects and situations so common that they’ve become invisible; to see these places and things in a new light; and to consider that they just might be beautiful. My paintings begin with my own photos, then I "push" the colors and adjust the "story." In "After the Rain," I headed in a rainstorm to an outdoor shopping center. As I pulled into the parking lot, the clear, bright sky was softly reflected in pools of rainwater. The beauty and simplicity of this scene made me smile, and I knew that there was a painting in it.
