After the Storm Painting

I am always in awe of the view from my classroom window. The low lying meadowlands is New Jersey with the distance hills and a hint of the New York Skyline in the background always remind me of the Dutch landscapes of Jacob Van Ruisdale. On this very stormy morning, I witnessed an almost transcendent moment when the sun’s rays pierce the clouds and outlined their edges. I knew from the moment I saw it that I must paint it. The blue gray of the sky and clouds is backlit by the pale warm pinks and yellows of the light was a natural for my oil painting technique. I believe I captured the saturation of the “just after the storm moment”. This painting is set in a black frame and ready to hang.
