This painting is from series collectively worked on and finished this year. Prepared on traditional gesso panels using old school techniques, I have prepared and sanded down a silky surface to help resonate and compliment the oils and gazes applied later.
The paintings have been worked on simultaneously throughout the year, providing layers of paint or glaze to build up a history in the making.
Hidden and revealed layers describe the pushing, pulling, scrapping or sculptural textures and mark making that have taken place.
Through these studies I have been exploring the medium and learning the nature of oil paint ... what it can 'do'.
The panel is mounted on black MDF and framed in pine making the dimensions 36.5 x 28.8cm (depth of frame 3.5 cm)
The panels are fixed so that the painting can be re-framed if desired.
