About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by the highly organized, surgical moon landing portraits of Michael Kagan. His brushwork has an almost digital feel to it so I took the same photo he worked from (one of the most iconic photos ever) and let it rip. The result sends a very different but hopefully equally important message. There are several layers of paint that overlap in places, it's thick and thin, shiny over here and satin over there. Photos can never capture the depth of an impasto painting but all the black really helps the photo read like standing in front of the actual painting. Construction details: This was painted on a pre-stretched cotton duck canvas with a medium weave. The frame is high quality and there are no stables visible from the sides or back. All of the edges have been painted and the painting is designed to be displayed unframed but a simple box frame would also be appropriate for display.
