About The Artwork
Inspiration for this painting derives from watching the movement of the tidal waters at a small beach cove while we were on holiday in Cornwall. The marine environment is fascinating, the amount of life on the rocks and within the sea is tremendous. Cornwall’s shoreline bristles with seaweeds, corals, anemones, crabs, mussels and seals. We all had a wonderful time rock pooling and investigating the aquatic wildlife at a microscopic level. With this seascape I hope the viewer feels wonderment at the power and motion of the waves.The rock stands the test of time and insists that the tidal waves hold back. The rock face has life growing on it and provides refuge for both sea birds and a diverse range of animals. The rock is an imposing motionless figure, in contrast the colours of the sea waves reflect the constant transformation of the ocean.

I studied English Literature BA (Hons) at university and I went on to do a Creative Writing course with the Open University. This led me to becoming a writer of children’s books, in particular I enjoy creating picture books. Gradually the picture became my focus and I started to create an Illustrator’s portfolio. The subject matter I work with varies from representing shape and form to intricate details. I am fascinated with nature and its’ various forms, whether it be wild animals, the wilderness, the weather or our pets. These themes compel me to create art. I have a love and deep respect for nature in all its forms, I hope these feelings permeate into the drawings via my brush or pencil. Illustrators such as Axel Scheffler, Alexis Deacon and writers such as Thoreau, Wordsworth, William Blake and George MacDonald inspire my artwork.
