About The Artwork

The area where I grew up had a lot of chalk hills. Fossilized shells or their traces could be found in the chalk. It impressed me a lot, because my hometown is very far from the sea. The fact that the earth has changed so much is amazing, it makes you realize and feel how short human life is. These memories came back to me when I visited the Turkey Natural History Museum in Ankara as an adult. There was a large collection of petrified inhabitants of the ancient sea. This series of watercolor paintings is dedicated to them. I used thick cotton paper with a pronounced extra-rough texture for these works. I wanted to convey the memories of life, the energy of the sea through watercolor effects on this paper. The inclusions of silver and copper potal are coated with shellac to keep their shine. Original watercolor painting on cotton paper 38,5 x 55 cm (15,16 x 21,65 inch). CoA is included.

When people ask me what is my subject matter, I find it difficult to answer immediately. I feel like a sweet tooth in a candy store. Do I really have to pick one? I’m surrounded by so many beautiful, interesting and inspiring sings and subjects. Some of them are obviously brilliant; others require attention and curiosity to reveal their uniqueness and beauty. It can be an interesting story or a rare, hard-to-grasp feeling. I think, human happiness is about many little joyous things and moments. We just have to not miss them. It’s very easy and very difficult in the meantime. When I find something wonderful, I feel a little happier. I want to share this feeling. My artworks are a way to show people my little but amazing discoveries. I’ve been drawing all my life. But it was never my profession. Now I have every intention of changing that. It’s a really big deal to me to say: “I’m an Artist”. I’ve been experimenting with different mediums before, but watercolor is my greatest passion. Watercolor allows me to work fast, with the same breath. My emotions don’t fade before the painting’s finished. I’m constantly studying and perfecting my technique. I like to explore the potential of this paint. Watercolor has its own character, which must be taken into account. I need a lot of backbone to “gain respect” of watercolor. Every my artwork is my master and friend. I’m grateful them to experience. Now my goal is to find them new friends, to let my paintings make someone’s life a little better, little more beautiful and little more joyous.
