About The Artwork
This is a piece of colour therapy for me and was very cathartic. I wanted to create a warrior to watch over us. The colours come from the heart and communicate power and love. The purple represents power, but when mixed with white in the headdress, it becomes pink and comes to represent softness, love and protection. The warrior's eyes and mouth are based on Nelson Mandela and his wisdom and strength. The Ngong hills in the background represent Nairobi .... folklore states that God, or Lengai, hit the hills with his fist, creating the pattern of knuckles in the ridges. The piece is large and is painted in layered glazes of oils on canvas.

Katy McIntyre Brown is an artist and textile designer. Having moved from Kenya, she now lives in Hampshire, England. She's hosted a number of solo exhibitions, regularly takes part in group shows and has been involved in public art exhibitions and competitions. Katy designed and painted the winning piece in the Nairobi-wide Pride of Kenya public art event to decorate a three dimension lion sculpture. Following being awarded a Masters in Textile Design, Winchester College of Art, England, she has created a line of textile designs to appear on wallpapers, wall arts and fabrics.
