About The Artwork
While walking with the family we found a rusty piece of metal. I took a picture of it and then tried to recreate the appearance and emotion of the rusted metal using acrylic paint onto hardwood. I tried to explore the different ways to distress the paint to show the underlying coats of paint as if it was an archeological excavation. It was an exercise of creating the painting by adding colours and then to let go of the control by sanding and distressing the painting.
