Two years ago I started a 30-day Challenge. As expected, on Monday. I had two goals: to get new skills in improvisation and to improve my English. So, what did I decide to do during 30 days? Every day to paint a new small picture. And each new work to accompany with a small story, written by me in English. What did it have to give me? Usually I carefully develop the idea of each picture. I think over everything to the smallest detail, I make design and schemes, I select colors. As a result, the work process itself, when I am are alone with canvas, paints and a brush, becomes something ordinary and predictable. Even routine. I know exactly what I'll do next, I have an algorithm. Calm and measured embodiment of the finished idea. And I don't like this spontaneitieless. So I decided to set myself the task of abandoning the usual way of acting and trying to bring back into my work the easiness and freedom. Write without thinking, without putting specific tasks, without expectations and claims to the final result. Ironically, the second goal, related to the English language, about the same - easiness. Be free to start talking. I read the texts in English enough fluent. I use the dictionary, of course. But at least I usually understand what is written. With spoken language is much more difficult. I'm straining, frantically trying to remember the complicated grammatical constructions, picking up words and ... and I can not squeeze out not one word . Those, easiness is required for me and to start talking. It was two years ago. And now I can say I’ve done it. And I’m presenting the first picture of my art-challenge. Day 1. I am researching a woman’s self-awareness, formed through the prism of stereotypes and prejudices that were developed in society. I compare behavior deviation from expected patterns to a glitch effect. Glitch art criticizes the digital culture promoting an ideal transmission of the image. Social glitch is self-expression through violation of programmed standing orders. In my context, the glitch looks like an inconsistency in the information expected. I express the glitch effect through the Central Asian ikat ornament. An ornament is a visual projection of a society. And for me personally it is endowed with special meanings because I grew up in Tashkent, and oriental ornament is part of my aesthetics.
