About The Artwork

In Greek mythology Atropos (Greek Ἄτροπος, 'inexorable' or 'inevitable'), sometimes called Aisa, was the eldest of the three Moiras. Atropos chose the mechanism of death and ended the life of every mortal by cutting its strand with her 'loathsome scissors'. He worked together with Cloto, who spun the thread, and Lachesis, who measured its length. All three were daughters of Zeus and Themis, goddess of order, or of Nix, that of the night. It is not clear whether Zeus was superior to the Moiras or whether he was subject to them as mortals are. Their equivalent in Roman mythology was Morta. In the painting I have used high quality pigments and oils of the prestigious brands Kremer pigment and Zecci. It is executed with all the ancient procedures in a long and laborious process. Estimated time of creation of 150 h.
