ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Melvyn often finds inspiration from the Cotswold landscape he currently lives in. This painting was inspired by the light at sunset. The tree was in the shadows apart from the top leaves that where hit by the evening sun and made the Autumn leaves glow like a fire. The tree really made a dramatic impression as it had not shed its leaves and stood alone in a barren winter landscape with its foliage in the last throws of Autumn.

Melvyn studied fine art in London and went on to win a David Murray landscape scholarship from the Royal Academy of Arts. For many years he worked as a highly sought-after illustrator specialising in romantic book-covers, working with such authors as Catherine Cookson, Maeve Binchy and Edwina Currie.
