Basalm on the Bluff Painting

Over the spring I was invited to create a work in-situ for a festival called "Brush on the Bluff" in Spokane, Washington where I am currently working on a grant-funded art project. I tucked myself into the middle of a large patch of Arrowroot Balsam Root and created a scene that would feel like being tucked into a large patch of these beautiful yellow flowers. As the weather took a downturn and it started to rain heavily, a small ladybug came to visit me so I made sure to include it. I wanted the work to evoke the magic that the nature of the scene gave to its participants. I wanted to preserve the light sage greens of the leaves and how well they complimented the deep yellows of the flowers, so I chose to use watercolor and to separate the finer details with black ink lines. Altogether I am hoping for a painting that leaves the viewer satisfied and enchanted. That perhaps they might wander and find themselves enveloped within their own glorious patch of perfectly wild flowers.
