Bedii Usta's Children Painting

This is the first piece in a series of paintings inspired by the narrative style of orhan pamuk. The inspiration for this piece came from the chapter entitled Bedii Usta's Children from Pamuk's The Black Book. I created this painting using the fumage technique in which I pass an oil lamp/candles beneath the canvas, and the smoke is trapped in the wet paint layer I apply prior to smoking. I use successive layers of smoke and white paint to draw out the images.
