This is a high quality limited edition print of an original 36" x 36" acrylic painting on wood that was featured and sold in Max Neutra's New Tongues show at Cave Gallery on Abbot Kinney. The print depicts a still life of a vintage Bell System phone that was found by the artist. Notice the mysterious lettering. During his New Tongues show, Max explored the ways in which a foreign language can change and add value to an object. By creating and implementing his own freeform lettering, he infuses iconic everyday objects with an unquantifiable value. What we are left with is a sense that the object is exotic, mysterious, and from a far away land. Max Neutra is best known for his ongoing bunny street art project. Conceived as whimsical idea created at a live painting event in Barcelona, he will tell you that the bunnies have since evolved into a study of space and motion, a meditation on achieving balance, and a pursuit of the perfect curve. Having spent years painting publicly at events across several countries, Max developed his own signature technique. Building up layers of acrylic paint as if it were watercotor, he creates images that have depth and motion seemingly contained within carefully honed borders. In his work, he often celebrates the aesthetically pleasing lines of industrial design, explores the evolution of music, and revels in the natural satisfaction of coming face to face with another species. Today, Max continues to foster a spirit of discovery while raising his daughter and creating art in Santa Fe, NM.
