I had to paint this woman when I came across this photo... she's beautiful, but something in her perfect posture and stiff pose suggests a bit of insecurity. It's unclear whether she is the subject of the photographer's gaze, or the car. I love to use found photos as subjects for my paintings, particularly the idea of taking some mystery moment in recent history and encapsulating it in paint. I wonder about the people in the photos, and make up stories in my head about them while I paint.
