About The Artwork

This is the first painting with a black background which I always wanted to experiment and get the feel of depth. After much thinking about the subject on this black background one image kept floating in my mind. Japanese cranes which are very symbolic not only in Japan but all over the world for its beauty and grace. Japanese cranes are considered a "Bird of Happiness", that can live for thousand years. The birds are also symbolic to luck. The Japanese believe that the crane carries the souls of the dead to paradise. It represents good fortune and longevity, fidelity, peace and also has healing power. As I was working on this painting I did realize that the work itself was energizing me and the surrounding, which was gloomy before but not the living space looks vibrant. In Europe cranes are associated with awareness and devotion. Cranes are also believed to be creatures of impeccable wisdom. The red crown Crane have attached so many symbolic meanings to its various qualities.

I was born just a year before my country got its independence - in 1946 in India. As I grew, so did my country. I have seen it rise from a dusty, sleepy country to a major player in the world market. I also spent more than a decade as a radio officer in the merchant navy and had the opportunity to travel the world.

All this has shaped my view of the world and I feel I am better for it. My paintings incorporate the diversity I have experienced during my life.

Adventurer, teacher, landscapist...or all of these?

As an artist I have no formal training and am entirely self taught. I do not adopt a single style of art. My work reflects touches of abstract, nature studies, charcoal sketches, still life, pointillism, impressionism and some spiritual overtones.

My prime motivation is to share and evoke creativity in everyone, especially children.
