Born in Santa Barbara, Newton's passion for making art began with drawing her mother's profile on long drives in the car over California, Arizona, England and other western European countries, then later across the United States to live in Georgia for part of her childhood. Her young sponge-like mind absorbed all likenesses of people and places. Returning to California in 1998 and supplementing artmaking and travel with the study of biology, spirituality, psychology and finally traditional Chinese medicine has deeply enriched Newton's perspective of humans and our place in the world. This richness is reflected in her vibrant abstractions, which ultimately reflect the unique splendor contained within the viewer. Humans and our environment are inextricably linked; the beauty we admire in nature is the same that exists within each of us. Newton currently resides in Ojai, California.
