About The Artwork

This painting is part of the series 'Symphony' because of the way it has been made, but it is a sort of evolution comparing to the previous works. In fact, while on the first 3 works I've only used black and pink Enamel paint and worked using wooden sticks, on this fourth painting I've added some acrylics and some steps to the process. More in detail, once I've completed the painting, at first very minimal like the other ones, I felt compelled to add some more, then to paint over completely with white paint, then with black, then again with white and so on. Each time I was going deeper and deeper into myself, until I suddenly "woke up" because of some noise. I remember looking at the painting knowing it wasn't completed still, but started to clean up anyway. All of the sudden, while watching the water from the tap cleaning my hands, I realised I needed to do the same with the painting. I so placed the painting over my car trunk, and with a bottle of water I've literally started to clean it up. Then I've started to splat pink colour on it, then water again. Until I knew it was done. I remember that moment clearly because knowing the water was still falling over the painting, I had to act very quickly to take it down to prevent the water for ruining the final work. Once I've done so, I've shouted "Uff! Blocked in time!", and it was clear that was the painting title, which by the way is not correct in English. I've decided to leave the wrong title because in Italy, where I come from, we have a similar expression which can be translated into "Stuck in the past". It felt appropriate, due to the fact this painting made me realise I'm somehow prisoner of my past (which I would like to clean up, just like the painting), and it is perhaps time to move on.

My art is about exploring and exposing the Human Being in its wholeness and complexity: what we can see, like the way a person looks, and what’s underneath, like a person’s story and emotions, her dreams, hopes and fears. For me each painting represents a deep journey into the labyrinth of conflicts, fears and stories that exist in most people’s mind, and also an intimate dive into the beauty of a person’s Soul, where her talents and dreams live. My process is a combination of logic, intuition and imagination, and it also involves going beyond what I’m rationally and consciously aware of, so the colours can fill the canvas from that space too. Depending on how much I’m able to let go of my need to control the process and my urge to give a visual form and meaning to what I’m painting, the final piece can come in the form of a portrait or an abstract work, or a mix of both. During the process, a lot of what is usually hidden in my subconscious comes to the surface. And although this makes it really challenging to understand where the line between what I’m painting and myself is, it also gives me a great opportunity for self-discovery and self-revelation. I work in acrylics. The way they melt together and allow me to paint different layers very quickly works organically with my creative process. I usually finish a painting by adding random splats of colour. These represent the uniqueness in every person. This also creates an adrenaline rush from the knowledge that I could ruin a good work in just a few seconds.
