I recently forced a handful of narcissus bulbs inside my house in a beautiful old planter and they bloomed with extraordinary abundance. I painted a small portrait of them on my customary chalky ultramarine blue as a way of preserving them. They happened to bloom the very week we began to really feel winter here in North-Western Massachusetts so as the snow piled up outside, our home smelled gloriously springy and their leggy green stems pushed up towards the hallway mirror until they were so impossibly stretched that I had to falsely shrink them to fit them into my painting.
The composition is painted on a cradled birch board and will ship wrapped in glassine and padding and placed in a box. it is unframed.

Lara Meintjes, also known as Agnes, is a South African artist, happily living in Oakland, California. She is particularly interested in arrangements of color, and the effects of each color's presence on the others within a composition. She also really likes flowers and awkward ceramic objects. Lara is fascinated by the dividing line between fact and fantasy, and the lingering imprint of childhood on our adult lives. She likes to play in the negative space between objects.
