About The Artwork

This work was Inspired by the Jazz musicians of New York. The saxophone player with the black hat on the left represents Charlie Parker and written on the left side of Parker's head are the words "Brail for the deaf and the hard of hearing", indicating that Jazz is a spiritual music that surpasses the physical senses. Three figures below represent the three blind mice and on the left is Joe the Dinosaur who is blind getting ready to play his Saxophone. The theme is blindness and the ability of Jazz music to transcende the senses, however at the top of the painting are the words "upon hearing the word culture, sally took her credit card out of her pocket book" indicating the commercialization of spiritual and primitive movements. On the far right side are Drayfuss symbols which tell of the history of the Cafe on which the painting is placed. In the middle of the painting is a corona bottle from the artist Mahn, the owner of Cafe Blue (Thang Lang Café)
