For this watercolor, I collaborated with the water. It was done with a live model, first the figure was "sketched" in water on the paper - invisible and then the liquid watercolor was applied. I never know how this technique will work out, usually something goes wrong. But this time it was magic. Although the original was sold immediately, it is still one of my favorites, and I want to make it available as a print.

United States
Eve Chayes Lyman is an artist, documentary photographer, and activist based in both the the United States and Guatemala. Her work combines art and social justice with a passion for the beauty of our common humanity. Having come into contact with the dark and painful side of life, she feels that it is crucial to explore our own shadows and demons and to ask ourselves difficult questions. This is reflected in her work. But her life experiences have given her an enduring faith in the overarching transcendence of the human spirit which can be seen in all of her work. The inspiration for her drawings is found in the figure, with its infinite capacity to express and embody the range and complexity of what it means to be human.
