I love religious paintings although, the interpretations are very literal which is fine since, that was the mass media of the day. I have a conceptual illustration background which simply means, I use metaphors to define the plot then, leave it up to you to determine a conclusion of your own. I have always thought that the words or thoughts of a deity would be better served if they were interpreted more conceptually. It is after all, a subject based on faith and the stories are fantastic to say the least but, it's the, "why," or, "if," that are tremendously important. This painting is obviously, from a human point of view. I used the rule of thirds which is fitting and along with the title should help identify its subtext.

When figures and nature are more about shapes and atmosphere they are reduced to emotion, this mood is their strength. Abstraction, by its very nature is disconnected and ambiguous, it’s this detachment from reality that allows it to become a middle ground for cognitive subject matter.
