Broken Boat Painting

My father lives near the coast of NC. Whenever I travel to visit him, I pass by this scene. This boat hasn't been moved in over a decade. I kept telling myself that I should pull over and photograph it and so I finally did in 2002. To me, the decay of it was visually beautiful. The nature surrounding it remained fresh while the man-made object was fading away. I chose to paint it on a wooden panel because I hadn't done that before. These days, I wouldn't dare spend over a week on a painting which may never sell, but this one took quite a while. I hope viewers will see symbolism of ageing in this picture. Also, I think it is calming to see. It is realistically painted, but if you look closely, you can clearly tell it is handmade.
