About The Artwork

I drew this ancient castle from nature in the open air in the first months of the war. Although times are hard in Ukraine now, I wanted to show the beauty of our ancient architecture. It is not known exactly when and who first built the palace in Pidhirtsy of the Stryi district. We know that back in the 17th century the Polish king Jan Sobieski hunted and received guests here, who later gave the estate to the nobleman Pechar for saving the king's life. Already in the first half of the 18th century. Józef Yablonovsky becomes the owner of the village and the castle. After him, a number of other personalities managed it until in 1817, Pidigirtsi was bought out by Jozef Brunytskyi. By that time, the castle was almost destroyed. The new owners preserved what survived, completed 2 wings with towers, and replanned the park that had surrounded the estate since the time of the Yablonovskys. During the time of the Brunitskys, the palace was beautifully decorated with ornamented wallpaper, paintings, statues, and candelabra. According to one of the legends, there was even a huge aquarium in the central salon instead of a ceiling. The estate had a library where more than 1,000 volumes of publications and archival materials were stored; wine cellars and labyrinths of underground passages.
