About The Artwork

This painting was originally commissioned for Outward Bound. It is about society and recycling. I wanted it to not only be just an image but also to have words integrated into the design. It was painted when America was figuring out, "What will we do with our garbage". I think it still resonates today. This is all hand drawn and painted lettering. The style is more Expressionist. Materials are gouache and watercolor paper. The original's condition is not as perfect as the image for printing is. Please have a look at the secondary photos, if you are interested in purchasing the original. I hope you enjoy this image.

"I am enthusiastic to be included and honored to be a featured Artist at the AD ART SHOW 2020 in the OCULUS at the WESTFIELD in the WORLD TRADE CENTER, NEW YORK CITY, the month of SEPTEMBER, 2020 also online at ARTSY.NET. and my recent inclusion of RALPH LAUREN illustrations in the SWANN AUCTION GALLERIES, New York City.  These were paintings I illustrated for the POLO RALPH LAUREN STADIUM collections in the 1990's.  There will be future Auctions of art that I created including logos, series images and original wildlife illustrations from various POLO RALPH LAUREN Collections". Recently incorporating water soluble drawing pencils with watercolor sticks & oil sticks both on canvas and on Oleo paper. This has given her a natural freedom of expression only a solid paint stick can give. The use of these new tools to create allow for a drawing/painting expressive style with watercolors, gouache, egg tempra, pastels, oils; sculpting with clay and paper; and printmaking. “Exploring landscape painting in the past with watercolors, gouache and egg tempra has been a very gratifying learning experience.” Realizing a major change in her work with these newer materials has been a revelation. The great illustrators turned fine artists, such as Hopper, O'Keeffe, Homer, Benton, Kollwitz, Cadmus, Bellows and many others have influenced and inspired her. As an accomplished Commercial Illustrator and Designer, Julie’s clients have included Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Harley Davidson, Playboy, ESPN and The New York Times, etc. An Award-winning Artist, showing privately, solo and group shows, libraries, galleries and museums in California, New Jersey and New York City, receiving commissions both private and commercial. Her illustrations have recently been auctioned by Swann Auction Galleries in New York City. She studies intermittently at the Art Students League under sculptor Jonathan Shahn and participates in Plein-Air Painting in the New Jersey/New England Area. She is also a member of the National Association of Women Artists.
