About The Artwork

Still life is sometimes considered the humblest of painting genres, sometimes the most philosophical. This contemplation of the Byzantine vase, in a sense, uses the physical vessel as an instrument of expressing inner quiet, solitude and oneness. In Jewish mysticism, the white background symbolizes the infinite light, and the redness of the object symbolizes integrity. The vase appears as a solid object but is gradually revealed to be somewhat translucent, just as our sense of individuality sometimes seems to dissolve in front of some higher power. - Included in this price: 250$ for the unique antique-style frame (see in the picture) but It is possible to ask for a rolled/stretched canvas without the frame. - Signed along the bottom left edge. - If you have different desires like any specific shipping request, or If there is a specific piece you want in specific dimensions, please feel free to contact us.

“Jerusalem is my home, the city of the most heavenly peace and the most difficult wars. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Israel in 1978. In my youth, I knew very little of Zionism or Judaism. The force that drew me to the land of Israel was neither philosophy nor religion. I simply gravitated unconsciously, with geological slowness, towards the underlying truth of my own existence. Today, as a Rabbi I find myself very fortunate to be a part of this place. Here, in this land, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and deep rooted culture, I try to capture this magical feeling of holiness I feel deep inside.” David Louis is an Israeli artist , a Jewish Rabbi and a lecturer on Kabbalah and Bible. He presents art shows of oil and watercolor paintings on various techniques and genres: coloristic and illusionist landscapes with personal interpretations, pulsing and pulsating abstract works. David lectures all around the world on the metaphysics of the Hebrew letters according to the most ancient traditions. As a painter from childhood and from a long line of painters, he finds inspiration for paintings in his mystical studies. His art is based on long years of deep research of the Jewish Bible and inspired by the unique landscapes of Israel. Louis’ living craft begins with the making of paint, continues with the harmonious blending of colors, and culminates in an infusion of intuition and inspiration. The composition is a dialogue between thoughts and hesitations, unknowables and traditions, decisions and doubts, contemplations and sudden insights.
