Closet Door #1 was inspired by a commissioned mural I produced in Brighton at The Marlborough Pub & Theatre, the theme was a Queer History of Protest. I tried to emulate a historic build up of graffiti and pasteup and paint to tell a story and used the slang words which at one time were directed with malice at the LGBTQ community but now have been reclaimed by the community to disempower the haters. I used stickers made from my own paintings and drawings, text and graffiti to express strong messages that all love is equal and to bring awareness to HIV, transgender, black lives matter etc. Closet Door is a 'coming out' story for myself and I hope for other queers.

Hizze Fletcher was born in Sheffield, England in 1965.
