About The Artwork

As artists we are constantly approached by entities requesting to purchase our work for NFT's. I will readily admit - I STILL can't wrap my head around what an NFT actually is. What I can wrap my head around however is the importance of always maintaining the rights to my images. plays, I'm pretty sure a lot of these requests are scams - we get a lot of those too..... The rabbit, my chosen subject, serves as a relatable voice in these paintings. Having featured prominently in my work for years, the rabbit symbolizes renewal and growth, both paths I am trying to take through this work. These animals also possess a mystical quality and an approachable visage that draws the viewer in, fostering a sense of connection and understanding. They answer the questions in a far more palatable way than I would. Deliberately small in size and painted on a flat panel mounted on a backing that is smaller these paintings have the appearance of floating off the wall. Complete with hanging hardware they can be displayed as is or framed.

Born into a somewhat nomadic family, Kari grew up in the Caribbean where she was exposed to many different avenues of creativity. Before graduating from the Ontario College of Art (1991) in Toronto, she spent her final year in the renowned Florence program, which has continued to inform her encaustic practice. Having recently returned to Toronto from another year abroad, one of both global significance and personal resonance, her work has shifted once again to examine the human condition through animal portraiture with equal parts intensity and empathy.
