My work conveys a connection with atmospheric interiors and spaces looking outward with fresh perspectives from memory and the imagination. The work is about space and memory juxtaposed with landscapes and thresholds. The Inner space series of pictures primarily in oil on canvas, photography, print and or mixed media make a representation of calm meditative reflective spaces, some empty some from memory some experienced. The Initial inspiration usually develops from photography and experiences with landscape and architecture. Audiences have responded to the work with a sense of memory, space, calmness and spontaneity. The paintings are a colourful interplay between representation and abstraction. The work may be positioned between realism and impressionism and often includes characteristic elements from the artist’s background and memory with occasional playful abstraction exploring real and imagined space. The paintings essentially consist of familiar or imagined spaces with occasional objects; thematic characteristics or figurative interactions. The work explores subjective perspective, emptiness and often poetic or metaphysical properties of space directly through framing, light, reflection, colour and texture. The work may be positioned between realism and impressionism and often includes characteristic elements from the artist’s background and occasional playful abstraction.
