Charlie Painting

I am an artist, illustrator and designer who enjoys working across a variety of mediums, from paintings and intricate pen and ink drawings to pencil and digital works. An admirer of magic realism I use a predominantly figurative style that combines elements of the fantastical and bizarre to create strange narratives and unexplained scenarios. The current phase of my work draws on traditional elements of the British experience and references themes of folk horror. Ever present influences include Kahlo and the Mexican muralists, the artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit, Klimt, Gauguin and above all others, Schiele. Raised in North Manchester I currently live and work in North Yorkshire.
