Child of Midnight Painting

"Child of Midnight" is part of a 4-set "Children of Time" which explores the strength and dominion of the small and grotesque, those who may appear to be weak and beaten down, but on whom the world depends in factors we may never even consider. In the middle of the night, the child of midnight reaches out a hand in the darkness to anyone in need, offering as much of themselves as they have left, the gaping hole in their centre the toll of every burden. As in much religious iconography, the shining golden border illuminates their transcendent power of goodness and joy whether or not the world is willing to accept them in all their atypical beauty.
