Andrea Benetti (Bologna, 1964) is an Italian visual artist whose practice encompasses painting, drawing, photography, installations, and video art. In 2006, he conceived the Manifesto of Neo-Cave Art, presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, a theoretical and artistic project that reinterprets the origins of human creative expression through a contemporary perspective.
Inspired by prehistoric art and the earliest forms of symbolic representation, his research develops a visual language that connects ancestral memory with contemporary sensibility. Through stylized anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures, archetypal signs, geometric elements, and the use of natural pigments, Benetti creates an ideal bridge between the birth of art and its present-day expressions.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous Italian and international universities, including Johns Hopkins University and the Universities of Bologna, Ferrara, Bari, Bergamo, Lecce, Messina, and Venice. His artistic practice and theoretical research have been the subject of academic studies, publications, and university projects.
His works are held in significant public and private collections, including those of the United Nations, the Vatican, the Quirinal Palace, the Italian Chamber of Deputies, as well as museums and cultural institutions in Italy and abroad.
His work is documented in major encyclopedias and international art reference sources, including Treccani, De Agostini, WikiArt, and Wikipedia in 45 languages. In 2020, he was awarded the prestigious Nettuno d'Oro Prize by the City of Bologna in recognition of his contribution to contemporary culture.
