I arrived at the paper and let line loose upon it. Colour was applied in acrylic washes, stains and thicker applications then pastel was used to add "pop' and excitement. As I painted I realized what this was, the symbol/shape of a dog appeared and a home. There appeared to be a pathway at the dog's feet, beckoning it home for it had been lost for awhile now. A sense of wandering, of forgetting where home was and now finally arriving, but without being fully aware of it. This painting was reflecting where I was myself, after being away from myself and starting to return for I developed PTSD and for anyone who has been through, you'll know what I mean, and for those who haven't, you literally loose everything good that makes YOU and feel only fear, anger, terror, exhaustion, and nothing feels familiar at all. This painting, this dog, represents that sense of returning to oneself, where there is happiness, joy, confidence, warmth, love after being lost for a very long time. I choose to use vibrant and strong colours to express and reflect the tenacity of spirit that I am so fortunate to possess. I decided on doing this piece in the mediums I chose for the freedom and immediacy of expression and the beauty of the mediums themselves.

Rather than empowering what kills our motivation and spirit in the world, I rebel against that by focusing on creating nature-inspired positive, uplifting and vibrant original fine art in accessible and affordable small to large formats, limiting and/or eliminating ecologically harmful materials and methods in the process. Having established a firm foundation in realism, I have grown into abstract expressionism to capture the evocation of what I see and feel when in nature. I find acrylics to be a great medium to convey the texture, energy, immediacy and spontaneity of the moods that are invoked by the natural world; be it a gloomy eve or a radiant summer day, quiet in the air or the rushing of waves. Oils also have their place in capturing evocative and luminescent scenes and subjects. Watercolours, coloured pencils, charcoal, oil pastel and so on, lend themselves to a specific moment or expression. These mediums help me to describe that moment that I am capturing or trying to express in a tangible, physical, emotional evocative form.
