Complementary Color Study Painting

This inspiration for this painting came to me when I was creating my Codes collages. I was playing around with complementary colors and the contrast between them when placed next to each other. As much fun as this was, I found it challenging to put green and red together without being reminded of Christmas time. This quickly became my least favorite complementary color combination but I found it interesting that this connection to a holiday overpowered a work of art, unrelated to any holiday, that uses these two colors in it. The holiday season is one of my favorite times of the year but I wanted to study these colors more closely. So I decided to start a series of small paintings using only green and red in a way that doesn't remind the viewer of Christmas time. This was very fun and challenging and I hope the viewers initial thought is an abstract painting versus a Christmas painting. I enjoy creating work with a challenge being the motivator. They slowly turned into abstract landscapes, which connects in many ways to my previous works.
