This artwork was created as a brain exercise and therapy for me. I experimented with this in an attempt to escape the way that I was feeling and thinking after experiencing extreme trauma. My goal was to distract myself from feeling anxious, lonely, and frightened after I was injured shortly after my husband died in an accident. It was unlike any work I had done previously. My personl style has been varied over the many years. I've been working for 40+ years and have painted in many different styles. So I invented this "exercise" to try to distract myself from the way I was feeling which was very grieved and very afraid. And now people are liking what I am making, which really started as chaos on a canvas. It was quite by accident. I saw this chaotic thing on a canvas that had dripped and just created itself. But the chaos made me very uncomfortable. So I made it orderly, and started putting order in between the chaotic portions of the canvas. And that is where it began for me and I'm trying to work along those lines and within that concept when I start each painting now. The way it goes it takes me into a different dimension of thought, and exercises a part of my brain that I don't normally use in functioning every day. Anyone who has painted or done something creative understands this process. Each painting could literally go on forever unless I just stop. So I have to stop at some point. The process is very cathartic, organic and unplanned and I don't even feel like I'm using my brain when I'm doing it. So that is why it feels like therapy for me. I hope that when people see it they can see something new each time they look at it, and say something like "I know I have looked at this painting many times, but I have never noticed this thing before".

United States
A professional artist for 40 years, I live in the great state of Oklahoma where the landscapes, sunsets and thousands of quaint small towns provide unlimited inspiration for paintings. My newest series will highlight Route 66 landmarks in advance of a 100-year celebration of the iconic highway that stretched 2448 miles from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles California. From the middle, I will start with my home state of Oklahoma and then see where this old road takes me on my newest journey.
