Contemplation Painting

I decided I wanted to paint a reclining woman. I found the position I liked and sketched until I found the one pose I felt excited about. I originally had the dress in red, but felt white lent the painting a more evocative and less erotic feel. I want the viewer to feel drawn in by her, to wonder where shes been. Is it the end of a hot warm night, is she remembering what the evening entailed..Is she pleased or relived, impartial or slightly ambivalent. I want you to want to be there with her, to find out. I used oil on canvas, and a knife. There are many layers of paint in this picture which give the painting depth. Although very different in style, I studied some Gauguin works to help me capture her tones and vibrancy. (such as 'Peacocks', 'Nevermore and 'Contes Barbares'). In this art work,my style lends its self to form and shape and my intention is for you to be drawn in.
