Replete with masterfully blended pigment and thick impasto (partially curtesy of a robin’s egg! Almost as if Ed Ruscha made a try at gestural abstraction! I love it!), Judith Skillman’s moons of earth is an enigmatic and emotive composition of the first order. The tonal complexity of the underlying passages of oil defies verbal description. The diagonal movement of this richly painted backdrop coupled with its mysterious hues lays somewhere in-between a beautiful sunset and the still, opaque surface of a pond speckled with sunlight and lily pads. The enlivened and organically phantasmagoric foundation is complemented by spinning and gestural loosely circular swirls of white.
