ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Over a long weekend, I visited the Cordouan lighthouse. The castle of lighthouses, built and upgraded by Henry IV, Louis XIV and Louis XVI. It features a royal apartment and a chapel. The Phare de Cordouan seats in the middle of the Garone’s estuary, la Gironde. Its construction includes many feats of ingenuity. Waiting for the amphibious shuttle,I took 5 minutes to paint this in watercolors with rain water. A great exercise as the limited time is liberating. Either you paint with vigor and spontaneity, or you don’t do anything. A life lesson in itself. That’s how I keep an open mind and recharge. And climbing the 300 steps was good for the vista and the heart.
