About The Artwork

I was born and raised in West Tennessee where it was common to live in former slave shanties amid vast Cotton Fields. Large families were desired and sought by Plantation / Large Farm owners as available resources to harvest the huge Cotton field's production. School for children was secondary to crop gathering. The harvesting of Cotton was torturous to thumbs and fingers as that the Cotton's Bolls would harden when opened exposing the cotton to be collected, but four sharp talon like spurs on each open Boll was waiting to dig into fingers around fingernails to create bleeding hangnails. Daily cotton harvesting was from 6:00 A.M. Until 6:00 P.M. and even later, if we were near completing a Bale of cotton or 2,000 pounds before dark. 12 year old boys were expected to pick a minimum of 100 pounds of cotton per day, bleeding fingers or not. Though the activity was long ago; memories of this type of labor and the associated unfavorable treatment never goes away.

My earliest showing was the December 1-17-2017 Art Hop in Kalamazoo's Public Media Network Suite 300, inside the Epic Center, located at 359 South Kalamazoo Mall. Exceptional hosting, wonderful turnout along with the pleasure of meeting other artists. This was a wonderful inspirational catalyst, firing me up to push forward with my creative artistic gifts, and their associated messages. Most recent show attended :Black Art Center's Art In Bronson Park - Summer 2023, WGVU -Grand Rapids T.V. Interview regarding my art - Fall of 2023.
