About The Artwork

The work was exhibited at the PAN Museum (Palazzo Arti Napoli) for the solo exhibition "Microsfera PE", 2020. In late September, 2019, a large iceberg calved from the Amery Ice shelf. The iceberg, named D28, measured about 30 km wide and 60 km long, or roughly the same area spanned by the size of Greater London. The thickness was estimated to be more than 200 m thick, making it likely the iceberg contains over 330 billion tons of ice. Since calving, the iceberg has slowly drifted away from the shelf where it was born. Why is it important? Antarctic ice deflects some of the sun’s rays away from the Earth, keeping temperatures tolerable. At the same time, this ice, more than four kilometres thick, constitutes the largest reserve of fresh water on the planet.
