About The Artwork

The paintings’ appearance changes, depending on the angle of perception. The use of oils heightens this fluidity. The medium has an emphatic presence, is more voluminous than for example acrylic paint, but also has a liveliness and richness that come into play once light hits its surface. I often apply contrasting colurs on different layers, resulting in mutual cancellation, but also the creation of a new space beyond religion and spirituality. on the one hand, and rational science, on the other.

Hello there! My paintings consist of multiple transparent layers, this makes it spacious and gives the illusion of movement. It is hard to see on a picture but you can see it clearly on the videos below☺ https://vimeo.com/207316520 https://vimeo.com/172478007 The body lives because of boundaries, the mind is limitless. My work stems from a fascination with the working and power of the mind. Coincidence gets to play a part in the working process. I associate coincidence with uncertainty, the unknown. As contrary to the certainty of fundamental religion or extreme materialism. I feel letting uncertainty and vulnerability having a role in your life is an interesting alternative in a world that can seem afraid of it. Vulnerable or uneasy subjects interest me in this matter. I visualize the process of stepping out of self-made restrictions. The material I use and work proces stem from the ideas I want to express. The empty space is part of the work Visible/invisible is a recurring theme. Invisible like time, the mind and other everyday themes, which are really unexplored yet. I work in a studio in Rotterdam; next to painting I work as an interactive performer and storyteller.
