Damask Rose Painting

Painted with acrylics, oils, pastels and pure pigments creating subtle translucent multi tonal layers to actualise this ethereal dream like scene. Sanding and rubbing back accumulated layers to reveal hidden colours which adds a dimension of depth and a textured patina effect to the finish. Taking inspiration from lush overgrown gardens in full bloom and the effect that light plays at different times of the day and how it can change the feel, composition and atmosphere of a scene. Centring on the delight and romance of the rose, not as a singular study, but as a collective in joyous celebration. My paintings are a reflection of my love for the natural world and an obsession with roses and rose gardens.
