Daphne One Painting

According to myth Daphne was changed into a Laurel bush while resisting rape by Apollo. Owing no formal similarity to the marble by Bernini that stimulated it, this painting emulates its energy, despite its pretty floral and verdant colouring, as the agitated nymph becomes leaf. The first of a series of Daphne paintings it is part of continuing body of work that plays with the paradoxical practice of visualising the impossible which painting reveals. It dissolves the familiar narrative, the solidified metaphor, opening up other meanings and feelings.
