Found Print: Through the addition of paint, the background and foreground is covered and replaced with a subverted alternative. The transparency of each pigmented area feeling different due to the swirl of the brush and the flick of the artist’s wrist as well as the size of the space to be covered, all have their impact on the redaction; creating a tension between the materiality and the surrounded image. Light and dark, positive and negative space, solid forms and shadows all now disrupt the idyllic; creating lost points of reference. They are out of context, out of place, otherworldly. Time and space, depth and scale are altered by the painted surface, producing blocked views, an anamnesis, reminiscence out of reach. Conjuring secrets from our imaginations that are encapsulated in the obliterating tarmacadam, trapping our memories as we attempt to fill in the blanks that make up that which we can no longer see, forever engulfed by the crude oil spill-like flow of pigment and paint.
