"Darkest Hour" is a painting from 'Let The Light In' series created in Portugal in 2023. The story of the series: Finding hope during challenging times is not easy. In this series, I embarked on a journey back to a time when my world fell apart. A time when I both lost and found hope. These paintings are a collection of those hopeful moments that help you overcome any adversity. Each piece began with a black layer on the canvas. As I’ve navigated through my personal memories, brightness was gradually added. Lighter colours began to partially conceal the darker areas. Transparent layers serve as a reminder of what shapes us. When you invite light into your life, you don’t eliminate darkness completely, but you diminish its presence in your life. The marks, borrowed from lines on the coastal rocks in Portugal, emerge from outside the paintings - hidden in places – are the threads that hold each piece together. They connect the memories, narratives, the places of joy and sorrow, loss and gratitude, regret and hope. It is my hope that this series will remind you to never lose your inner light.

Vered Brett is an abstract painter based outside Lisbon in Cascais, Portugal. Her artwork explores the depth, complexity and multiple layers of the stories and memories we carry in our soul. Vered's paintings invite you to dive deep into hidden and unknown moments, peel the layers, and embrace the calming power of self-acceptance and truth. Her work has been selected to feature in online art platforms, art magazines Divide and Create, and was exhibited in Lisbon. Vered’s work, materials and process are pure reflections of growing up next to the Mediterranean Sea in Israel, and her life today on the coastline of Portugal. She paints with acrylic, oil pastel, and ink using water as a main medium to allow free flow of paint, soft borderlines, and unpredictable marks. Driven by curiosity and the joy of exploration, she uses a variety of unconventional tools collected mostly in nature. Her creative process is free from rules and offers a free connection with her soul, her past and present.
