As evening approaches, deer come down from the hills to graze at lower levels. They can be seen silhouetted against the sky. Sutherland is a wild and empty landscape. It is sparsely populated due to the infamous Highland Clearances of the 18th and early 19ty centuries when people were turned off the land in order for the more profitable farming of sheep.
